Privacy Policy

Effective date: 15 March 2026  ·  Last updated: 15 March 2026

GutBrain ("we", "us", or "our") operates the website at www.gutbrain.news. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and what rights you have regarding your personal data. We keep this simple — we are a content publication, not a data company.

1. Information We Collect

We collect information in two ways: information you give us directly, and information collected automatically when you visit the site.

Information you provide directly:

  • Email address — if you subscribe to our newsletter or create a member account.
  • Name — optionally, when you sign up as a member.
  • Comments or messages — if you contact us via email or a contact form.

Information collected automatically:

  • Usage data — pages visited, time spent on pages, referral source, and browser/device type. This data is aggregated and anonymised.
  • Cookies — small text files stored in your browser. We use strictly necessary cookies to keep you logged in if you are a member, and analytics cookies to understand how the site is used (see Section 4).
  • IP address — collected automatically by our hosting provider (Ghost) and analytics tools, but not used to identify you individually.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect only for the following purposes:

  • To send you email newsletters you have subscribed to.
  • To manage your member account and allow you to log in.
  • To respond to enquiries you send us.
  • To understand how our content is being used so we can improve it.
  • To comply with applicable legal obligations.

We do not sell your personal data. We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond what is described above.

3. Email Newsletter

If you subscribe to our newsletter, your email address is stored securely by Ghost (our publishing platform) and used solely to send you content updates. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link at the bottom of any email we send. Once unsubscribed, we will not contact you again and your data will be removed from our active mailing list within 30 days.

4. Cookies & Analytics

We use a small number of cookies:

  • Strictly necessary cookies — required for member login sessions. These cannot be disabled without breaking the site for logged-in members.
  • Analytics cookies — we use privacy-respecting analytics to understand site traffic. Analytics data is aggregated and does not identify individual visitors. No data is shared with advertising networks.

You can disable cookies in your browser settings at any time. Doing so may affect the functionality of the member area but will not prevent you from reading content on the site.

5. Third-Party Services

GutBrain is hosted on Ghost (ghost.io). Ghost processes data on our behalf as a data processor and operates under its own privacy policy. We do not use third-party advertising platforms, social media trackers, or data brokers.

Articles may contain links to external websites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites and recommend you review their policies independently.

6. Data Retention

We retain your email address and account data for as long as you remain a subscriber or member. If you unsubscribe or request deletion, we will remove your personal data from our systems within 30 days, except where we are required by law to retain it longer.

7. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights under applicable data protection law, including:

  • Right of access — to request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Right to rectification — to correct inaccurate data.
  • Right to erasure — to request deletion of your data ("right to be forgotten").
  • Right to object — to object to how we process your data.
  • Right to portability — to receive your data in a machine-readable format.
  • Right to withdraw consent — you may unsubscribe from our newsletter at any time.

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at privacy@gutbrain.news. We will respond within 30 days.

8. Children's Privacy

GutBrain is not directed at children under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

9. Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data from unauthorised access, loss, or misuse. All data transmitted between your browser and our site is encrypted via HTTPS. However, no method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For significant changes, we will notify subscribers by email. Continued use of the site after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
